gestures toward Plant Vision is a cinematic meditation on how plants might perceive and make visual sense of their surroundings via light, colour, movement, stillness, layers, and time. Drawing on plant neurobiology and the hypothesis that cellular structure in plant leaves is similar to the structure of the human/animal eye, the film imagines plant vision as distributed, sensory awareness across the cells of leaves. Through its contemplative imagery and accompanying soundscape, filmmaker Sarah Abbott invites viewers to consider how trees and plants experience the world, their alternative forms of intelligence, and ways of knowing beyond the human.

About the Artist
Sarah Abbott, DSocSci, MFA, is a Canadian interdisciplinary scholar attentive to sentience and perspectives of ecological nonhuman worlds (particularly trees/plants), interspecies communication, planetary care, Indigenous ways of knowing, ethnographic practice, and film. Drawing on algorithmic processes and generative visual systems, Migratory Parameters reveals how mathematics and data can uncover patterns beyond human perception while simultaneously reshaping our understanding of the world. As contemporary life becomes increasingly shaped by algorithms and data, artist Yoshi Sodeoka highlights that digital systems are not objective mirrors of reality, exploring the growing tension between lived experience and its computational representation.
